What to do when you smell gas in your house?

According to Peoples gas, We want to ensure that any potential gas leak is handled safely and swiftly. Here's what you should DO if you smell gas:

  • DO leave the home, building, or area of the suspected leak. Get to a safe area as quickly as possible.
  • After leaving your home, DO call the 24-hour emergency number for THE GAS UTILITY PROVIDER, or call your local emergency response number.
  • DO call 911 to notify police and fire officials.
  • DO warn others to stay out of the area.
  • DO stay nearby until a gas company representative arrives, or until you've told the company where you can be reached.
